Why this page exists

Giving credit where it's due.

Wrench.Pro uses third-party datasets and tools to do its job. Some of those sources require attribution as a condition of their license. Others don't — but listing them anyway is the right thing to do.

This page is the public record of every external data source or tool we rely on, what we use it for, and how it's licensed. If we add or remove a source, we'll update this page.

    Google Maps Platform — Places API & Geocoding API

    How we use it
    Powers the auto-repair shop directory. When you enter a ZIP, we use the Geocoding API to find the center of that ZIP and the Places API to surface nearby shops, including names, addresses, ratings, hours, and contact info. Shop ratings and review counts come from Google.
    License
    Subject to the Google Maps Platform Terms of Service. Google requires attribution for displayed Places data. Current terms: see the link below.

    NHTSA — vPIC API & Recalls API

    How we use it
    The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration provides the vehicle product information catalog (Year / Make / Model lookups) and the open-recalls dataset that powers our recall warnings. NHTSA data is the authoritative source for US vehicle safety information.
    License
    US Government public-domain data (17 U.S.C. § 105). Attribution is not legally required, but we credit it because the work is theirs and drivers should know where the safety information comes from.

    SimpleMaps — US Zip Codes

    How we use it
    ZIP code → city / town / state mapping. Powers the Locality and Metro filters in our internal analytics so we can understand which regions drivers are searching from in aggregate. Not displayed publicly per driver.
    License
    Free Edition. SimpleMaps' free license requires attribution back to the source page. Verify their current terms at the link below before redistributing.

As Wrench.Pro grows we'll bring in more datasets — vehicle specs, shop directories, parts catalogs, mapping data. Every new source that requires attribution will land here, and we'll note when we added it.
