Privacy
The short version: Wrench.Pro has no user accounts, sets no advertising trackers, and never sells data. We collect the minimum needed to run the site, and this page lists all of it. Last updated 2026-10-03.
Browsing the site
- Usage analytics. We use PostHog to count page views and feature usage (which vehicles get looked up, which buttons get clicked) so we know what to build next.
- Your location stays yours. When you search for nearby shops, the ZIP or city you type is used to show results and is not attached to any profile of you. When a page asks for a VIN, it stays in your browser.
Things you send us
- Forms. If you request a Buyer's Playbook or use the contact form, we store what you typed (including your email address) so we can deliver what you asked for and reply. That's the only thing it's used for.
- Shop portal. Shops that claim a listing give us business contact details, and payment runs through Stripe — we never see or store card numbers.
The public API and AI assistants (ChatGPT, Claude and others)
Wrench.Pro offers a read-only vehicle-data API, and AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude can call it on your behalf through our connector. Requests contain vehicle identifiers (a year, make and model, optionally a mileage or a ZIP code for nearby shops) — never your name, your conversation, or anything about you. Our server logs record which API key or assistant made the request, the route, the vehicle, the response status and the response time, and nothing else. The same facts (assistant, tool, vehicle, timing) are counted in our usage analytics so we can see which assistants people use and what they look up. We do not record the free-text question you asked, the ZIP code itself, or your IP address. There are no API user accounts and nothing to log into.
Links the assistant shows you back to wrench.pro carry a short tag saying which assistant they came from, so we can tell that a visit started in ChatGPT or Claude. The tag identifies the assistant, not you.
Your conversation with the assistant itself is handled by its provider under its own policy — OpenAI's privacy policy for ChatGPT, Anthropic's privacy policy for Claude. We only receive the vehicle lookup itself.
What we keep, for how long, and who touches it
- Server logs (API route, vehicle looked up, response status): held in our hosting provider's log system and expire automatically within 30 days. We don't archive them.
- Form submissions (Playbook requests, contact messages, including your email): kept while we deliver what you asked for and handle follow-ups, no longer than 24 months — or deleted immediately when you ask.
- Usage analytics: event-level data for up to 12 months; after that only aggregate counts survive.
- Who receives data on our behalf: our hosting provider (Vercel), our analytics provider (PostHog), and — for shop-portal customers only — our payment processor (Stripe) and email provider (Resend). No one else, ever.
- Your controls: ask through the contact page to see or delete anything you've sent us, and it's done — no account needed, no hoops.
What we never do
- Sell or rent data about you — to anyone, for any price.
- Run third-party advertising or ad trackers.
- Let a sponsor's payment change what the data says. Sponsored placements are always labeled.
