2022 Lucid Air Recalls, Issues & Maintenance

The 2022 Lucid Air carries 15 open NHTSA recalls — most recently covering front and instrument cluster/panel. Owners report 7 recurring issue clusters, led by “Drive system fault and loss of motive power.” Lucid publishes a real schedule and it is refreshingly specific: an annual or 12,000-mile multi-point inspection covering brakes, coolant condition, and a road test, with the cabin filter and wipers done at the same visit. Brake fluid goes every 2 years or 24,000 miles. The stand-out line is the 12V system: the Air and Gravity carry two 12V batteries and Lucid schedules their replacement at 4 years or 48,000 miles rather than waiting for failure, a policy we wish every EV maker copied since dead 12V batteries are the leading cause of bricked EVs. High-voltage battery health gets a formal check every 2 years alongside the A/C performance test.

Essential maintenance

Critical for safety and preventing major damage

Annual Multi-Point Inspection

Every 12,000 mi

Every 12 months or 12,000 miles: brake pads and rotors, brake fluid condition, coolant condition, 12V condition, tire balance, and a road test.

Estimated cost — typical U.S. ranges

Dealer

~$85

~$60

DIY

Free

Most shops do this free with any paid service. A flashlight and 10 minutes covers the basics yourself.

Tire Rotation & Balance

Every 12,000 mi

Annually or 12,000 miles on matched-size Airs; staggered fitments get wear checks instead. Over 1,000 horsepower in the fast versions makes tires the biggest running cost.

Estimated cost — typical U.S. ranges

Dealer

~$85

Shop

~$60

DIY

Free

Often free at the shop where you bought the tires — worth asking before paying.

Estimated cost — typical U.S. ranges

Dealer

~$180–$200

DIY

~$10–$25

DOT 3 or 4 — match the cap. Vacuum bleeders make this a one-person DIY.

Brake Inspection

Every 12,000 mi

Most shops do this free as a courtesy with any service. Don't pay separately if you can avoid it.

Important maintenance

Keeps your vehicle running smoothly and efficiently

Every 48,000 mi

Both 12V batteries replaced every 4 years or 48,000 miles with Lucid-approved parts, a scheduled item rather than a wait-for-failure one. Service-center work; the batteries are not owner-accessible.

Estimated cost — typical U.S. ranges

Dealer

~$225–$390

Shop

~$160–$280

DIY

~$130–$250

Most auto-parts stores test and install batteries free with purchase. Skip the dealer markup.

Cabin Air Filter

Every 12,000 mi

Annually or 12,000 miles, sooner in dusty conditions, along with wipers and the key-fob battery.

Estimated cost — typical U.S. ranges

Fatal crash history & reported problems

Occupant deaths in fatal crashes (FARS)

1 crashes 2010–2024

FARS counts every occupant death in a fatal crash, whatever the cause — it does not mean the vehicle was at fault or defective. Counts are not adjusted for how many of each vehicle are on the road. How to read this number
