2023 Ineos Grenadier Recalls, Issues & Maintenance

The 2023 Ineos Grenadier carries 1 open NHTSA recall — most recently covering critical fasteners. No recurring owner-reported issue clusters are on file. The Grenadier pairs a BMW B58 straight-six with a schedule written for actual work: service every 12 months or 12,000 miles, and Ineos itself says to halve that under sustained off-road use, towing, or wading. That honesty is rare and worth taking seriously; water crossings age axle and transfer fluids no matter what the calendar says. Brake fluid goes every 2 years. The driveline runs published multi-year fluid cycles, with sources disagreeing on the axle interval, so confirm yours against the service booklet. A 5-year unlimited-mileage warranty backs it. BMW norms cover the engine internals; the truck bits are pure Ineos.

STEERING:CRITICAL FASTENERS

Campaign #23V903000 · Dec 29, 2023

Issue: Ineos Automotive Americas, LLC (Ineos) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Grenadier vehicles. Non-locking nuts may have been mistakenly installed on the steering rod ball joint.

Risk: Loose or missing nuts can result in the steering rod ball joint disconnecting from the steering knuckle, causing a loss of steering and increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will install locking steering rod ball joint nuts, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed June 25, 2024. Owners may contact Ineos customer service at 1-919-296-3626.

Essential maintenance

Critical for safety and preventing major damage

Oil Service (Annual)

Every 12,000 mi

Every 12 months or 12,000 miles with BMW-spec synthetic; every 6 months or 6,000 under heavy off-road, towing, or wading duty, per Ineos's own guidance.

Estimated cost — typical U.S. ranges

Dealer

~$120–$160

Shop

~$85–$115

DIY

~$25–$55

Full synthetic costs more than conventional. 5-quart 0W-20 + filter is the typical bill.

Annual Service Inspection

Every 12,000 mi

Underbody, driveline seals, and breathers inspected annually, immediately after any deep-water work. This truck is designed to ford; the schedule assumes you will check what the water touched.

Estimated cost — typical U.S. ranges

Dealer

~$85

Shop

~$60

DIY

Free

Most shops do this free with any paid service. A flashlight and 10 minutes covers the basics yourself.

Brake Fluid

Every 24,000 mi

Every 2 years regardless of mileage.

Estimated cost — typical U.S. ranges

Dealer

~$180–$200

Shop

~$125–$140

DIY

~$10–$25

DOT 3 or 4 — match the cap. Vacuum bleeders make this a one-person DIY.

Tire Rotation

Every 6,000 mi

Rotate with each service or sooner; heavy all-terrains on solid axles reward frequent rotation.

Estimated cost — typical U.S. ranges

Dealer

~$85

Shop

~$60

DIY

Free

Often free at the shop where you bought the tires — worth asking before paying.

Important maintenance

Keeps your vehicle running smoothly and efficiently

Axle (Differential) Oil

Every 48,000 mi

Published guidance conflicts: one source says inspect at 2 years and replace at 4, another documents a first-service change then a long cycle. Confirm against your service booklet, and change early after sustained wading regardless.

Estimated cost — typical U.S. ranges

Dealer

~$150–$195

Shop

~$105–$135

DIY

~$20–$50

Drain plug + fill plug — straightforward DIY. AWD vehicles have two; budget for both.

Transmission & Transfer Case Fluid

Every 72,000 mi

The ZF 8-speed and transfer case run roughly a 6-year published cycle here, notable because the same ZF box is called a lifetime fill in BMWs. Off-road duty shortens it.

Estimated cost — typical U.S. ranges

Dealer

~$330–$500

Shop

~$235–$355

DIY

~$60–$180

Some sealed transmissions have no dipstick — fill is precise and best left to a shop. Many drivers can still DIY drain-and-fill.

Recommended maintenance

Extends the life of your vehicle and improves comfort

Spark Plugs

Every 60,000 mi

Not separately published by Ineos; BMW B58 practice is roughly 60,000 miles. Confirm with your service center.

Estimated cost — typical U.S. ranges

Dealer

~$285–$390

Shop

~$200–$275

DIY

~$25–$100

Iridium plugs cost more but last 100k+ miles. V6/V8 access varies wildly — some are tough.

Engine Air Filter

Every 30,000 mi

Not separately published; inspected at services and replaced on condition, early in dust.

Estimated cost — typical U.S. ranges

Dealer

~$60–$95

Shop

~$45–$70

DIY

~$15–$40

5-minute job on most cars; the airbox lid usually has clips, no tools needed.

Engine Coolant

Every 100,000 mi

Not separately published; BMW long-life norms apply, checked at every service.

Estimated cost — typical U.S. ranges

Dealer

~$285–$330

Shop

~$200–$235

DIY

~$25–$60

Use the manufacturer-specified coolant — wrong color/chemistry can damage the cooling system.

Typical U.S. ranges. Actual quotes vary by shop, parts choice, and vehicle condition.

How we estimate: Dealer = OEM parts × 1.4 + labor × $165/hr. Shop = parts + labor × $115/hr. DIY = parts only.
